Yamaha DX7 II USB FM Vintage Digital Synth
Sold On: 2017-04-14
Along with the Roland D50, the Yamaha DX7 provided the most memorable sounds of the 80's and beyond. This synthesizer was arguably the best example there has ever been in hardware form of the potential of FM synthesis. The DX7 was an immediate success with all of its modern digital circuitry and its ability to conjure amazing soundscapes at the simple touch of a button. Long gone the days of messy interfaces full of knobs and patch cords, the DX7 and it's sleek, minimalistic user interface stormed the globe to become one of the most memorable synthesizers of all time. The DX7 was produced from 1983 to 1986 and became the first commercially successful digital synthesizer. From 1987 through 1989, Yamaha issued three updates to the DX7 - culminating with the DX7IIFD, the most advanced DX7 ever released. It featured bi-timbrality and a floppy disk to store additional sound banks.
Let's get the bad stuff out of the way first: the front panel does have 2 very small (about 1/8") and very minor scratches that are almost invisible. In fact, they are so hard to see, I was unable to photograph them to show you. However, the scratches are there and are visible only when you look at the synth from a very specific angle. Most people will not notice them. Also, the underside of the keyboard does show the kind of wear you would expect from a synthesizer that has been used by a gigging band. Also, the original music stand is not with the keyboard. Now, on to the good stuff. All of the visible areas of the synthesizer are in perfect condition. There are no scratches, no cracks, and no dents on the upper plastic enclosure except as noted above. The synthesizer really has an almost-new look to it. All of the keys work like a charm. And being that this IS a Yamaha keyboard, it sports the legendary synth action that Yamaha is well-known for - better than a Fatar. All of the wheels, sliders, and buttons are in excellent shape and are in perfect working order. There is no noise in the audio stream when you move any of the sliders. All of the buttons respond to normal touch and do not require you to press them with excessive force. All of the audio and accessory jacks are working and none of these jacks are loose. The MIDI jacks are all in perfect working order and none of them are loose. The headphone jack is also working as expected and does not show any sort of problems mechanically or electronically. The display is nice and crisp and the battery appears to be in good condition. In short, just about everything on this keyboard is in stellar condition. This is a fully-working item that is sure to bring you many more years of sonic enjoyment.
